![]() They like acidic soils, and our heavy clay soils aren’t acidic enough. Red (rubrum) maple is not - much of the southern third of the state has the wrong soils for them, so they can really struggle. Probably the hardiest and longest lived of the maple options. Sugar maple is native throughout most/all of Minnesota, so it would be a great choice. You could try posting to /r/change or /r/samplesize instead.
